SEO for wedding photographers in West Midlands… not only.

SEO for wedding photographers in West Midlands… not only.

This article has been written by Mk Wedding Photography, not by professional SEO man, and it is only my subjective opinion about the process. I might be wrong! Info might be not correct. This is my observation, based on some SEO activities. The results may be different in your case… but it is interesting.

What is SEO

As you can read on Wikipedia. SEO is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website. In our language, it will be: Where is my website in a search engine if I write a specific keyword, e.g “wedding photographer in West Midlands”  Everybody wants to see their website in the first 3 results. For most website owners it is a dream. For many keywords my website: www.mkweddingphotography.com in on the first google page, and on some of them in the top 3.

Keywords vs SEO

A couple of hours ago I was checking some data regarding my SEO and position in Google ranking. In the last week, my website has climbed up on some keywords regarding West Midlands, Warwickshire but at the same the time my web page dropped down…

I’m thinking about 2 specific keywords. Very similar, nearly identical:

wedding photographer west midlands vs wedding photographer in west midlands the difference in keywords is a word “in” – the difference in the position in Google search engine is big.

The first one is in the 8th position on Google. the second one is far behind. When I create content which should help climb my wedding photography website in SEO, I look after many possible ways…

wedding photographer west midlands vs wedding photographer in west

The only difference between those 2 keywords is a word “IN” for me, and possibly for most of the other wedding photographer is not a big deal. It looks like Google’s robots see in it a huge difference, and they read it like two separate, very different keywords. It will explain why my wedding photography website on one of them is in the first 8 results and the second one is far behind… Have you ever had a simillar situation? (you can write to me via my contact page on my web).

Wedding photography in Coventry

Wedding photography in Coventry

Hello, and thank you for visiting my mini wedding photography blog. Today a couple of words about wedding photography in Coventry, Warwickshire/West Midlands.

Some time ago, I have presented you with some wedding photos from Coventry Registry Office but today I’m going to take you to the town centre of Coventry, and the surrounding area…

e&m--10

Coventry town centre, and one from the most recognisable places in Coventry. Coventry Transport Museum. I had an opportunity to photograph this couple in 2016. They got married at the Coventry Registry Office, and then we have moved to the town centre. Mr and Mrs, me – MK Wedding Photography and a lot of equipment. Cameras, stands, flashes, screen reflector and the best man who worked as my assistant 🙂

You can believe or not but I was the first wedding photographer in Coventry, who took a wedding couple there… (It was 2016, and at the time I didn’t find any wedding photo which has been taken next to Coventry Transport Museum), possibly it has changed now. Because when I published this photo on my Facebook’s profile (here), many local photographers commented on it.

Bayley Ln, Coventry, CV1 5RN

The most beautiful street in Coventry. And as you can see, a great place for some nice wedding photos. Behind the newlywed, you can see a gate to St Mary’s Guildhall – great gothic wedding venue, and on the left side… ruins of Coventry Cathedral.

Just in front of BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. It was time for a short rest.  They sat on a bench, and I was packing my cameras to a bag. When I have turned towards them, I spotted this situation… I couldn’t avoid this moment.

Wedding photography West Midlands – Birmingham wedding Jan 2019

Wedding photography West Midlands – Birmingham wedding Jan 2019

It was the first wedding for me – (MK Wedding Photography) in new 2019. Firstly, I photographer a wedding ceremony at the church in Birmingham, West Midlands, and secondly we moved to a wedding venue near Warwick in Warwickshire. A lot of driving that day, but at the same time great natural wedding photos.

As usually, I get to the church earlier, to have a chat with people, to check lighting condition, and generally where to be – co capture the best natural moments from the wedding ceremony.

As you know, MK Wedding Photography loves to capture detailed wedding photo stories, showing what happened in details. This time was exactly the same. I’ve created really detailed reportage from the church. I managed to capture not only the bride and groom, bot many nice images of guests arrived for the ceremony.

It was small church in the heart of Birmingham. The place had nice lighting, and I could use it in building quality images…

Have a look on some photos from the ceremony.

And some photos after the ceremony… on the way out from the church.

After the ceremony we have moved to Hatton Arms near Warwick, Warwickshire. to the place where wedding reception took place, and below some photos from that place.

Which camera is the best for weddings ?

Which camera is the best for weddings

Which one?

Every single photographer will say something different. I will tell you about my experience, and equipment I use in day to day work across West Midlands and Warwickshire.

So, I’m Nikon guy.

ZYFRONT-LG
ZYFRONT-LG

I tested Canons, Sonys, but I stick to “N” brand. From 2015, my main tool in wedding photography is NIkon D4s, heavy, bulky piece of magnesium, plastic, and rubber. The second body is smaller D750 with larger sensor (24mp) vs 16mp in D4s.

However, in my opinion, sensor is not so important in wedding photography. Some time ago i have used Nikon D800 with 36mp sensor, and it was tooooooo much for me. That’s why I have purchased D750.

What is the best in D4s in wedding photography.

Many wedding venues across West Midlands and Warwickshire is dark. If is dark, a wedding photographer has to increase ISO or reduce shutter speed, or open a lens for max aperture.  There is second option.. to stop the wedding ceremony, and ask registrars, and a couple to stand still, because photographer has to find reasonable settings in the camera….. Of course it is impossible. And nobody at the wedding ceremony or even later during the first dance. Which usually takes place after the sunset won’t do this for photographer. That’s why is so important to have right equipment, and what is more important knowledge about it, and knowledge about limitations of the equipment.

So, why Nikon D4s is so good for me?

– ISO range

– Auto focus

I mentioned about dark wedding venues across West Midlands. High ISO helps in those places. You can trust me or not but in D4s ISO 10000 is still usable in some conditions. Noise is reasonable, and acceptable.me

h&d-384

Autofocus…. In my opinion it was the best auto focus till 2017, when Sony A7 3gen has been relisted witH it’s eye focus. A lot of sport photographers use D4s in sport photography, motorsport, and everywhere where you have to capture fast moving objects. In my case as West Midlands wedding photographer I can appreciate auto focus in low light condition. Even if is totally dark, and other cameras won’t be able to catch the focus, my Nikon can😀

I give you an example…

November 2018, a hotel located in the heart of West Midlands. I was just after the first dance. I had many relaxed people bouncing on the dance floor. Extremely low light condition. From time to time wedding guests were hit by flashing light set by music band which was entertaining during the evening wedding party. I took my Nikon, with flash on the hot shoe. I set continues group focus because my objects were moving. And I start shooting. I haven’t seen to much trough view finder but my camera does.

What I don’t like

– size

– weight

Beside Canon Eos 1, Nikon D4s is the biggest full frame camera on the market,  and it impossible to discrete while taking a wedding photos.

Weight.  Body’s weight is approx. 1350g. If I add one from my favourite 70-200 f2.8 the total weight goes up to around 3000g. If you hold this set up in your hands for a couple of hours, you can be sure that on the next day you will feel pain in your hands.

But is still lighter than Nikon D5 🙂
