How to choose a wedding photographer – Advice from one from the best West Midlands Wedding photographer. part 1

Before I start, I have to clarify a couple of things. The post is dedicated to all wedding couples who are looking for quality photos and can spend a reasonable amount of money for a professional photographer.

Who I am and why I write about how to choose a photographer.

I am Marek Kuzlik and I am a wedding photographer from Coventry, West Midlands. I have been in the business for years, and during that time, I was able to create hundreds of breathtaking wedding photo stories. As 34 years old polish photographer in the United Kingdom, I have achieved great success on the local market, and after only a couple of years, I became the recognisable person in wedding photography life in West Midlands area. If you have spare a couple of minutes, have a read what I can say about choosing a wedding photographer.

Meet more than two photographers.

I am aware that the time is money and many of you have no time to arrange a meeting with photographers who potentially may spend with you all your wedding day. In my opinion, this is a mistake. A photographer still plays a very important role at your wedding day. So, it is good to have the right person with you. It is good to put a lot of effort to book the right wedding photographer.

If you finally decided to meet more than 2-3 wedding photographers from West Midlands… if you are from this area, you can compare their offers, personalities, quality of photos and approach to the wedding day. It might give you a clear vision of what you will need and what you will get.

My meetings with clients.

Every year, MK Wedding Photography has an opportunity to meet more than 50 fantastic wedding couples every year. Of course, not everybody books me as the wedding photographer because simple, I wasn’t the right person. They were looking for different personality, different style, sometimes different budget. Sometimes higher, usually lower.

Should I book a photographer for a pre-wedding photo session? Your West Midlands wedding photographer will say yes. For you and for the photographer it is a great opportunity to see how we will behave in front of the camera. It will definitely make your life easier on the wedding day.

Pre-wedding photo session with your dreamed wedding photographer will give you a lot of nice portraits of you. Not the ones which have been taken on your phone on a part, which often are blurred, overexposed or just badly framed. Beside visual effect, you will get some knowledge about the photographer who will spend with you a whole day on your wedding day.

Wedding photographer in Coventry – MK Wedding Photography

MK Wedding Photography is the brand established in 2014 and after a couple of years, it became one from the most recognizable wedding photography brands in the Coventry area. Hard marketing work on Social media and at SEO field have pushed MK Wedding Photography to the top. In 2018 one from local weddings websites has picked me for “TOP 3 WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS IN COVENTRY” – nice.

Anyway, I based in Keresley End, near Coventry where I run a large garden photography studio, and on the side of this, I do wedding photography. This is what I like, and this is what I’m going to do in the next couple of years.

I’m one of the wedding photographers in Coventry and I know many wedding venues in the area. Do I photograph many weddings at those venues? No. I cover a large area of the UK and most of my work comes from other wedding venues across West Midlands, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire, Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes and much more. But I do not cover the whole country.

MK Wedding Photography’s best wedding venues in Coventry.

Well. In Coventry, we can find many wedding venues. Every single one very different from the others and I have my favorite ones.

St Mary’s Guild Hall, a wedding venue in Coventry town Centre.

The Guild Hall located in Coventry’s town center is my favorite one. From a photography point of view, it is a very interesting place and gives many opportunities for outstanding wedding photos.

Coventry Registry Office, Warwickshire

The main point in Coventry if we are thinking about weddings. I do not want to describe the place in details but “Black Prince Room” is an incredibly nice place. Nice lighting but in some specific conditions, it may be very problematic for some photographers.

The Chase Hotel, Coventry, Warwickshire

The third, and the last wedding venue in Coventry on this list. I love The Chase Hotel because of an amazing staircase. This is the area where I can take all the photos from a wedding day and it won’t look the same.

5 best wedding venues in West Midlands, Shropshire and Warwickshire

Hello, After a long break because it was probably around 2 weeks, your wedding photographer from Coventry MK Wedding Photography came back with a set of wedding venues, where I had a pleasure to photograph in the last year.

Traditionally, it will be subjective “competition” for the best wedding venue. It will be a true reflection about places where I have been, and where I photographed weddings.

OK, let’s start.

NO 5

Brandon Hall, Coventry, West Midlands

In the last couple of years, I have been at Brandon Hall a couple of times, and as a one from wedding photographers in Coventry, I can say… I know this wedding venue and what is more important, I will be happy to come back there in the future. The venue is located just out of Coventry in a village Brandon.

I was wondering many times why I want back to Brandon Hall? It is not a massive building, green area is not big. Lighting isn’t perfect but I still feel that need to photograph another wedding at the venue. Mabe all challenges I meet there, maybe because of every single time, I can discover new places and ideas for the photos? I don’t know. But is on the list.

NO 4

Nailcote Hall, Coventry, Warwickshire

The venue with a golf course where I can go with my wedding couples. And I think it is the most important point of this place. Interior of the building is also nice and gives me plenty of opportunities for nice photos. Nailcote Hall is located between Coventry and Solihull.

It is not a popular place for me. I have been there maybe 4-5 times but always I was happy to photograph there. As I mentioned above Nailcote Hall has the golf course. This is the main place for taking wedding portraits of brides and grooms. Some small lakes, old oaks, and generally many beautiful areas for wedding photos.

NO 3

Dunchurch Park Hotel, Dunchurch, Warwickshire

Dunchurch Park in village Dunchurch. It will be around 16 miles from Coventry, a couple of miles from Rugby and a couple of miles from Draycote Water, where I will be sailing very soon. I won’t write about this place, for all interested, I will provide links to all venues at the bottom of the post.

In this article, I express my impression as a wedding photographer.

Beautiful. I have one word to describe this wedding venue in Warwickshire. Amazing building with a great interior. Big park around with a small lake at the end of the park. Place where every single wedding couple goes with a photographer. I’ve been there as well. And with my off flash cameras, I have created epic images.

NO 2

Swallows Nest Barn

Nest Barn, located next to M40 near Warwick. I’ve been there once, and I believe I will have more opportunities to photograph weddings there. I feel hungry. I’m aware that in November last year I haven’t done everything that I could but anyway I have created a great job there.

Small wedding venue located between small hills, which may give some unusual opportunities for creative images in the future. Very quiet place. Place where you can rest, and enjoy a wedding day. Even if you are a wedding photographer.

Wat was important for me? Nice lighting all day round, and great backgrounds.

NO 1

The Mill Barns

A wedding venue in Shropshire. If you are getting married and still looking for your wedding venue – have a look at The Mill Barns website. If you are a wedding photographer and the venue is in your range – do everything to get a job there.

Separate preparation room. Big, with many mirrors but bad lighting, the rest is just PERFECT. I think an architect who designs this complex was thinking about photographers 🙂

How much a wedding cost?

Hello and welcome on a new blog where we will talk about wedding inspirations, about wedding photography, and we will give you some tips… about a wedding in UK.

How much a wedding may cost? As a West Midlands wedding photographer, I had an opportunity to photograph over 100 weddings across West Midlands, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire, London, and to be honest many other locations across the country in the last couple of years. I have been in many stunning wedding venues but I was photographing weddings in social clubs as well.

Cost of expensive and budget wedding for 100 people.

OK. I won’t give you a specific quote specific wedding. it will be my true reflection based on my knowledge, stories heard from my brides and other people in the business. I do not want to give you full names of the suppliers, stores, and other details because I do not have permission… I didn’t ask for it.

The statement will include many points and at the same time you can find out that many are missing. OK, let’s start.

Costs of a wedding venue

I believe the starting point of organising a wedding day is to clarify the budget and choosing a wedding venue. Before I have started my journey in wedding photography, I was aware of only a couple of wedding venues in my area where I based. Therefore, I established that weddings may take place in 100’s of places around West Midlands and Warwickshire.

Back to the money. How much you can spend on it? Some time ago I photographed a wedding day near Milton Keynes, where my couple paid £189 p/p Let’s invite 100 guests for the wedding. This specific venue will cost £18900

The budget place was a social club near Birmingham. I was there in 2014, and my couple has invited around 100 guests. So in both options, we have a similar amount of wedding guests. The total cost of the venue was £1800

Cost of a wedding dress

The story is from different weddings. In 2017 one from my brides told me that she bought her wedding dress at a wedding store in Birmingham for £2100 The dress was simple and beautiful. It is exactly the same as a dress of my other bride who bought the dress of eBay for £120. I add that there was no difference in photos.

Expensive wedding – £21000 / budget wedding – £1920

Cost of Groom suit.

And again we have a big difference. One from grooms from 2018 has purchased his suit for £1200. In my opinion a lot of money on clothes which you will use once. The other one from the same year didn’t spend any penny for a wedding suit. He has used the one he found in his wardrobe.

Cost of bridesmaids dresses.

On a wedding in 2016 I had 8 bridesmaids and they had dresses worth £2312. As a comment I can add, they were amazing. on the other side… well £0, ladies have decided to use own dresses. which option was better for me as a wedding photographer? The first one! Expensive wedding – £24512/ budget wedding – £1920

Cost of wedding shoes bride/groom

Shoes. The most expensive one which I’m aware of was Prada for £550 for the bride, and for a groom (not the same wedding) around £400 on the other side a bride paid for shoe £24, and let say the groom could spend around £40 (estimated)

Expensive wedding – £25462/ budget wedding – £1984

Wedding photographer

That’s my field. I know how much my couples pay for my service but today won’t be about me. In the South West you can find a photographer who will charge you £3500

and you will get full day coverage and around 500 photos. For an album, you have to add a lot of money (from £600). I’m on social media, and from time to time I can see adverts stating: “full day coverage, 2 photographers, 100’s photos, an album…” for £325 – no comment!

Video

£4000 vs £350 big difference? OK, I know some really good guys who create wedding video, and they work price range around £1200 The effect is much better than the cheapest option and is nearly the same as the expensive option. 🙂

DJ

I have met a DJ at a wedding in London. he was from Birmingham, and he charged £1000 The same year, Warwickshire, nice hotel, and DJ for £200 …hmmm

Wedding band

If I will get married, I won’t save money on live music. £3000 vs £450

Expensive wedding – £37562/ budget wedding – £3609

Rings

Let’s be honest, rings look similar to others, only material which they were made affecting the price. Some brands ask for even more because they are recognisable around the world. And what I spotted at my weddings was… £1400 vs 340

Hairdresser & mua

Above I mentioned about 8 bridesmaids, so lets base on it. One lady and her support (London)charged £120 p/p and it gives us £1080 One lady in West Midlands charge £40 p/p £360 but I was on many weddings where costs were much lower… MUA in the bridesmaid’s team.

OK, let’s finish at this point. As you can see many things we can add but it is not the point. I gave you 2 different options for a wedding day. I also give some comments, opinions but it is only my reflection and I understand if you do not agree with me.

West Midlands area where I live is not the most expensive in the country and as I read on big wedding portal for brides, the average cost of the wedding in the area is just above £30000

OK. let’s back on the track. Let’s back to the list of photos which every single bride and groom want have in their wedding album:

In case if a wedding photographer attends the event to cover a full day. Will start on the morning bride preparation. It is an opportunity for every single photographer to present some nice shots from “changing” process. Another point in the wedding schedule is a wedding ceremony. The official and legal part of the day. The next step is… usually after the wedding ceremony we – photographers have the time for some photos, and then we go back to the venue, where the wedding party start their meal. Then speeches, cutting the wedding cake, and finally the first dance.

SEO for wedding photographers in West Midlands… not only.

This article has been written by Mk Wedding Photography, not by professional SEO man, and it is only my subjective opinion about the process. I might be wrong! Info might be not correct. This is my observation, based on some SEO activities. The results may be different in your case… but it is interesting.

What is SEO

As you can read on Wikipedia. SEO is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website. In our language, it will be: Where is my website in a search engine if I write a specific keyword, e.g “wedding photographer in West Midlands” Everybody wants to see their website in the first 3 results. For most website owners it is a dream. For many keywords my website: www.mkweddingphotography.com in on the first google page, and on some of them in the top 3.

Keywords vs SEO

A couple of hours ago I was checking some data regarding my SEO and position in Google ranking. In the last week, my website has climbed up on some keywords regarding West Midlands, Warwickshire but at the same the time my web page dropped down…

I’m thinking about 2 specific keywords. Very similar, nearly identical:

wedding photographer west midlands vs wedding photographer in west midlands the difference in keywords is a word “in” – the difference in the position in Google search engine is big.

The first one is in the 8th position on Google. the second one is far behind. When I create content which should help climb my wedding photography website in SEO, I look after many possible ways…

The only difference between those 2 keywords is a word “IN” for me, and possibly for most of the other wedding photographer is not a big deal. It looks like Google’s robots see in it a huge difference, and they read it like two separate, very different keywords. It will explain why my wedding photography website on one of them is in the first 8 results and the second one is far behind… Have you ever had a simillar situation?
